Strengthening Rural Communities

Rural Aid’s Community Development programs aim to create long-term, positive change in Australia’s rural towns. We recognise that for rural communities, a variety of challenges exist such as changing populations, extreme weather patterns, and skills shortages. We prioritise working with rural communities because at Rural Aid, we understand that farmers and rural communities are deeply interconnected.

Our Community Development programs use an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, promoting a sense of empowerment and a ‘can-do’ attitude. The programs not only build individual leaders, but also strengthen social connections and bonds within the community.

We support communities during all stages of disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness and recovery, encouraging local people to be actively involved in building the town they dream of.
